LAB in San Francisco, Z Programs presents:
Z Program 40 a multi-artist, cross-discipline performance
extravaganza featuring the work of composer/performers
Pamela Z and Donald Swearingen 
along with a host of experimental performers including:
Butoh performer Kinji Hayashi,
composer/kotoist Miya Masaoka,
gloved audio artist Laetitia Sonami,
electronic noise artist K. Atchley,
photographer Marion Gray,
random and persistent ensemble Shnacker,
video artist Helena Kolda,
performance music ensemble Noggin
and the return of THE QUBE CHIX!
Tickets are $10 general ($7 Members/Students/Seniors) Saturday the
13th is PZ's birthday, and anyone who can prove that either their
last name starts with "Z" or they are 40 years old gets in for half
price. People who are both Z and 40 get in free. (ID required!)

"Z program 40" is the seventh installment in an ongoing performance
project which Pamela Z started in summer of 1987 with "Z program I".
In 1988, Donald Swearingen joined Ms. Z to co-produce the next five
events ("Z program II" 1988, "Z program 2.5" 1989, "Z program 3 or 4"
1990, "Z program V" 1992 and "Z Programs presents DUETS" in 1995.)
These events have all featured the works of a diverse selection of
experimental artists of various disciplines sequed together into a
unified performance event. Past Z Programs have included such artists
as Rinde Eckert,Hank Hyena, Barbara Imhoff, The Art Guys and The High
Risk Group. Z and Swearingen always (shamelessly) feature some of
their own work, and often do collaborative work with others on the
program. The performances have always been provocative and full of
surprises, and Z Program 40 promises to follow suit!

Pamela Z is a composer/performer and audio artist who works primarily
with voice, electronic processing, found objects and sampling
technology. She has done solo performances in the Bay Area since 1984
and has toured extensively thoughout the United States. Her most
recent touring engagement was a performance at Lincoln Center in New
York as part of the "Bang on a Can" festival. She has done original
scores for choreographers and for film and video artists, and has
created a number of commissioned audio pieces for New American Radio,
the most recent of which was supported by the San Francisco Art
Commission. She is currently developing new solo work utilizing a
MIDI controller called The BodySynth™ which allows the performer
to trigger sounds with physical gestures.
Donald Swearingen has been composing and performing experimental
music in San Francisco since 1985. He creates live and recorded works
using a broad palate of sounds including sampled voices and objects.
In addition to working with existing hardware and software, he has
created alternative MIDI controllers that make use of light and
motion to manipulate sound. He has created numerous commissioned
audio pieces for New American Radio, and his work "Salvation at 1am"
was released on the Nonsequitur "Radius" CD. Under the alias
"Specimen 23" he has released several collections or original work,
and his 23 Arts organization has provided sound related services to a
number of artists and organizations.
