Nesting and Flying and Flying and Flying... |
Gentle Gazzetta Readers, It’s been a fruitful summer, and I see a busy autumn ahead! Very little traveling for me, this summer. I only went out on the road once to give a concert as visiting artist at the Walden School, an amazing music camp in New Hampshire. I very much enjoyed my time there with the inspiring group of young people who make the truly remarkable place their summer community. Nesting... And I made it a point to drink in a lot of great Bay Area exhibitions and events. Elaine Buckholtz had a magnificent solo show at Electricworks Gallery, Outsound presented an excellent concert of experimental voice artists at Community Music Center, and SFMOMA was a dream with Bill Fontana's sound installation and the Steins Collection. I launched my first web-based artwork – the final phase of the large, multifaceted project that is Baggage Allowance. It’s now permanently installed for all to explore at baggageallownce.tv. (Now I just have to finish editing and authoring the DVDs and CDs that I promised to some of my generous supporters!) I’m pretty delighted with the project, although I keep tweaking some of its details. It’s a joy and a relief to finally unleash it and to shift my focus to new projects. It’s nice knowing that people all over the world can now visit it (and even leave a little of their own baggage, if they wander far enough into it to find some secret little bag-drop locations!) And my ROOM Series continued into the summer–handily surviving the echoes of the “Violagate” affair and the sad cancellation of the Qube Chix reunion concert. I had Amy X Neuburg with Robin Cox Ensemble, and the season finished with a flourish in a moving, poetic evening of Butoh and sound. That evening, which I shared with The Atchleys, Dean Santomieri, Shinichi Iova-Koga, Kinji Hayashi, and Leigh Evans, turned out to be one of my favorite Room Series events to date. This month, I also held the most recent installment of SoundWORK (my sound & performance workshop) in my private studio. I had an exceptionally interesting and diverse group of participants and received positive feedback from them. I plan to schedule more workshops in the coming year, so I’ll keep you posted... SFEMF Flying...
Hope to see some of you if any of my travels bring me near your neck of the woods... Cheers, PZ |
