METAL / VOX / WATER

Pamela Z

Metal/Vox/Water is a full-evening suite of Pamela Z's short works for voice, electronics, and video. It includes several of the works from her concert repertoire as well as a few excerpts from her large-scale multi-media works. Using a video projection back-drop and a distinctive lighting design (by Elaine Buckholtz), the works are presented in such a way that the solo performance fills and activates an ample proscenium or theater stage.

Ms. Z digitally processes her voice in real time to create lush layers of sound punctuated by sampled concrete sounds (which she triggers with gesture-controlled MIDI instruments), fragments of text, and found objects sampled and looped in real time. WIth her powerful, trained voice, she seamlessly navigates through operatic bel canto, spoken word, and experimental extended techniques traversing a wide timbral and pitch range.

The evening takes it’s title from a segment in which she performs with amplified strips of metal hung in the space and a video that samples metal, water, and voice. (Contact Pamela Z Productions for availability and fee information.)
